A Return to Simple Ingredients: The Wellness Journey Continues

April Mescher in her garden, embracing a clean living wellness journey that inspired the founding of Kinwell Roots natural skincare

As I look ahead, I keep coming back to one lesson that has reshaped my life: our bodies know when something isn't serving us. For years, I felt weighed down—low energy, inflammation, and a sense that my system was working harder than it should. And as I entered my 50s, it became impossible to ignore that the food I ate and the products I used were no longer things my body could simply "tolerate." That realization sparked a deep return to simplicity. From that moment forward, my family and I made a conscious decision to transition away from seed oils, review every ingredient we put in or on our bodies, and rethink the habits we once accepted as "normal." The difference was immediate. We began to feel lighter, clearer, more alive.

This journey has touched every corner of our home. We traded store-bought bread for homemade loaves, started making almond milk every Sunday, cut out white sugar except for feeding our bees, and crafted our own coffee creamer. We learned how to make soap without harsh detergents that strip the skin, and we stopped overlooking how marketing hides things in plain sight. I also chose to give up alcohol—my body wasn't processing it well, and it simply didn't align with who I am becoming. Our backyard grew into a full edible garden that sustains us through summer and into the winter months, and beekeeping became a way to support our neighborhood ecosystem while giving us honey for baking, herbal remedies, and seasonal immune support. Little by little, we took back control of the things we once outsourced without question.

Those steps—small, consistent, intentional—are what eventually led to Kinwell Roots. For the past five years, my family has peeled back the "shiny branding" and learned to listen to our bodies instead of the marketing around us. None of it has been perfect, and all of it has been transformational. This year, I'm committed to continuing that learning and using Kinwell Roots as a space to share what we discover, what works, and what makes the everyday feel more aligned and whole. My hope is simple: to show that a healthier, more grounded life is absolutely within reach, and that anyone can take small steps toward it with faith, confidence, and curiosity. The journey continues—and I'm so grateful to be walking into 2026 with purpose and clarity.
